Konoe Nobutada

Biography

1565-1614

Konoe Nobutada was a Azuchi-Momoyama period Japanese nobleman. His pen name was Sanmyakuin and was appointed Naidaijin (The Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal of Japan) and Sadajin (Minister of the Left), until he was banished to Satsuma after the Battle of Bunroku. However, during his exile, Konoe was welcomed by Shimazu Yoshihisa and gained recognition as a poet. Known also for his excellent calligraphy and is named one of the Kan'ei Sanpitsu (Three Brushes of the Kan'ei period), alongside Honami Koetsu and Shokado Shojo.
