Biography |
Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875) was a Buddhist nun and female haiku poet from the late Edo period. She was born in Kyoto and studied waka poetry (31-syllable Japanese poems) under Mutobe Yoshika, Ueda Akinari and Kagawa Kageki and was strongly influenced by Ozawa Roan. She was acquainted with the likes of Murakami Tadamasa, Tachibana Akemi, Nomura Motoni and Takahata Shikibu. She was an excellent potter and her ceramics are called Rengetsu-Yaki. |
